Special Things to Do on Valentines Day

Bob Current asked:

Beginning in January we are flooded with ads on television, radio and in print about getting the most excellent, most romantic gift. But just what is the right gift?

Is it the coolest roses, the largest box of sweets or the most lavish candlelit dinner? How about a piece of sparkly diamonds?

All of these thoughts are okay, they’re just not very well thought out. Nearly anyone can go to the nearest jeweler or chocolate store, pull out their wallet and buy what they guess is required to awe their lover.

There are even sites that actually recommend giving gift certificates. It isn’t important if the certificate is for a meal or anything else, a gift certificate essentially says, this is how much I thought I should spend.

Make sure that you understand, those gifts can be part of the Valentines Day festival, they just shouldn’t be your complete focus.

To make Valentines Day something to remember you need to allow your inner romantic to reveal itself. To do this you need to try a different plan, you need to discovering the unique ways to express your love to the best part of your life.

The Valentines Day Test

Consider Valentines Day as a test. Not a test where you answer questions, but instead a test of how well you understand your sweetheart.

Prep for your test by actually listening to and observing your sweetheart. Watch what they look at in stores. Look for the times when they find something in the newspaper that catches their interest. Think about your relationship. Is there an activity that you used to enjoy when you were first dating that has gradually given way to the daily demands of home and work?

When planning for Valentines Day consider that the greatest gift that you can give your sweetheart is a gift of time. Time together, special moments for themselves, so be creative.

Present the day as a series of gifts, not just one here are the roses and candy, now it’s off to dinner. A series of small gifts or surprises that lead up to something truly unique that will make this Valentines Day the most special.

So Here Are Some Ideas

Start the day by offering a beautiful red rose and a short poem when they first wake. The love note doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to be honest and express your feelings.

If they are the one that always prepares breakfast, you do it. Place a small love coupon next to the plate that gives your lover the gift of your time however they want to use it.

Take their car and clean it thoroughly. Don’t say anything to them about what you have done, just do it and allow them to discover it on their own.

Think of a special entertainment that includes only the two of you. It not important if it’s swimming, shopping, or canoeing. The goal is that it be an activity that you both will enjoy all the more because both of you are doing it.

If there is something that your Valentine has been trying to persuade you to try, now would be a great time to do it, together. Have they been wanting to roller blade, go for a hike, see a movie they want to see or whatever, now would be the time.

The basic idea is that whatever you do doesn’t have to be mushily romantic. The romance will come from the knowledge that you have truly listened to and thought about the one you love.

Then take them out to that special night out, give them the roses and candy and buy them some nice bling. After all, They are the love of your life!
